Babe Adeeko Signs New Long-Term Contract With Wigan Athletic

Triple S Sports Management are pleased to announce that Baba Adeeko has signed a new contract with Wigan Athletic.

Baba, 20, has committed his long-term future to the Football Club, putting pen to paper on an extended deal that runs until at least the summer of 2027.

The young midfielder is a proud product of the Heatable Wigan Athletic Academy, having first joined the Football Club as an U13 following an amateur spell with his Irish hometown club Mervue United.

The 20-year-old played a key role in midfield for the U18s throughout his two-year scholarship, helping Latics win back-to-back Professional Development League North titles in 2019/20 and 2020/21.

His professional debut followed against Sunderland AFC in the resulting campaign, and Baba has grown from strength to strength since then, excelling for Latics U21s last term as they finished third and reached the Central League Cup Final.

Having deputised in Sky Bet League One against Derby County as a second-half substitute, Adeeko marked his first league start at Carlisle United with a wonderful assist for Latics’ opener.

He ensured that he grasped his opportunity with both hands, establishing himself as a vital cog in Shaun Maloney’s new-look Latics team. Baba has made 36 appearances in all competitions so far in the 2023/24 campaign, with 30 of those coming in League One.

Popular with the Latics supporters due to his all-action performances, Adeeko has also received well-deserved recognition on the international stage, winning several caps for the Republic of Ireland U21s in recent months.

A highly-rated midfielder who has an extremely bright future ahead of him, Adeeko has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at the DW Stadium and will be looking to continue his form in a Latics shirt for years to come.

Commenting on his new contract, Baba Adeeko said:

“I am very delighted to extend my stay here. I cannot wait to see what the future holds.”

First Team Manager Shaun Maloney added:

“Baba’s long-term contract is an extremely positive statement from the Football Club. He has made his first-team breakthrough this season and has been a really important player for us both in and out of possession.

“He is a young player with fantastic potential, and I’m convinced if he continues to work hard, he will have a successful career with us here at Wigan Athletic.”

Congratulations, Baba!
